On this page, we’ll cover what you need to know about installing a custom recovery on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8, including bootloader requirements, recovery compatibility, important precautions, and the current state of third-party recovery support.

Important: Unlike older Galaxy devices, the Galaxy Z Fold8 is a very new Samsung foldable. At the time of writing, I could not verify a stable, officially supported TWRP build specifically for the Z Fold8. Therefore, I would not recommend downloading or flashing a recovery image advertised as “TWRP for Z Fold8” unless it has been independently verified for your exact model and firmware. Flashing an incompatible recovery can leave the phone unable to boot.
Samsung officially lists the Galaxy Z Fold8 with a 5.5-inch cover display, 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, 4,800mAh battery, and 50MP + 50MP rear cameras.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is Samsung’s latest book-style foldable, designed around a wider cover display and a large inner screen. The device weighs just 201 grams and measures 4.5mm when unfolded, making it Samsung’s lightest Fold yet.
The phone uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor and comes with 12GB RAM on the 256GB and 512GB configurations, while the 1TB version includes 16GB RAM. Samsung offers 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options.
For photography, the Fold8 features a 50MP wide camera and 50MP ultra-wide camera, along with a 10MP cover-screen camera and a 10MP under-display/main-screen camera.
The phone runs Samsung’s latest software platform and is eligible for up to seven generations of Android OS and security updates.
TWRP, short for Team Win Recovery Project, is a third-party custom recovery environment for Android devices.
On devices that officially support it, TWRP can provide features such as:
However, TWRP support is device-specific. A recovery image made for another Galaxy Fold model should never be assumed to work on the Z Fold8.
This is the most important part of this guide.
At the time of writing, I cannot verify a stable official TWRP release specifically intended for the Galaxy Z Fold8. Because of that, this article does not provide a fabricated download link or recommend flashing a recovery image from an unverified source.
The Fold8’s hardware and partition layout are different from previous Galaxy Fold generations. Samsung also uses its own boot and security architecture, meaning a recovery image must be built and tested for the precise device variant.
Do not flash:
twrp.img files found onlineIf a properly tested Z Fold8 recovery becomes available, this section should be updated with the exact supported model numbers, firmware requirements, and verified download source.
If you’re considering modifying your Z Fold8, there are several things to understand first.
Bootloader modification and system modification can result in data loss.
Back up your:
Keep an additional copy somewhere other than the phone.
Do not rely only on the name “Galaxy Z Fold8.”
Check:
Settings → About phone → Model number
The model number is important because Samsung releases different regional and carrier variants.
A custom recovery generally requires an unlockable bootloader.
Samsung’s bootloader behavior can vary according to region, carrier, and model, and some variants may not provide the same unlocking options.
Modifying Samsung’s software security chain can have consequences for Samsung’s security features and warranty/service eligibility.
Before modifying the phone, make sure you understand the consequences for your specific region and model.
For a future verified Z Fold8 recovery installation, you would generally need:
Do not download a recovery image simply because its filename says twrp.img.
The recovery must match the exact Fold8 hardware and software configuration.
| File | Galaxy Z Fold8 TWRP |
|---|---|
| Device | Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 |
| Recovery | TWRP |
| Status | No verified stable Z Fold8 build confirmed at the time of writing |
| Android | Current Samsung software |
| Installation | Depends on future device-specific recovery release |
| Recommendation | Wait for a verified build |
Once a properly tested Z Fold8 recovery becomes available, the installation method will depend on how the developer packages the recovery.
Samsung devices commonly use a PC-based flashing workflow rather than the standard Fastboot recovery command used on many other Android phones.
A compatible recovery package may therefore require a Samsung-specific flashing process.
Do not substitute commands from a Xiaomi, OnePlus, Pixel, or older Galaxy guide.
The partition layout and flashing requirements can differ significantly.
This is especially important with a new foldable.
An incompatible recovery can cause:
The risk is even higher if the recovery was built for a different model or firmware generation.
Rooting is technically separate from TWRP.
Modern Samsung rooting methods commonly involve modifying an appropriate firmware component rather than simply installing an old-style SuperSU package.
However, the exact method depends on:
Because the Fold8 is a current-generation device, do not follow an older Galaxy Fold rooting tutorial blindly.
If a stable and properly tested recovery becomes available, advanced users could potentially use it for:
But these advantages only apply when the recovery has been properly developed for the device.
For most Z Fold8 owners, Samsung’s stock recovery and official software tools remain the safer choice.
| Feature | Stock Recovery | TWRP |
|---|---|---|
| Official Samsung support | Yes | No |
| Factory reset | Yes | Yes |
| System updates | Yes | Depends |
| Custom ROM installation | No | Potentially |
| Advanced backups | Limited | Potentially |
| Custom modifications | Limited | Yes, where supported |
| Risk level | Lower | Higher |
| Z Fold8 verified support | Yes | Not verified at time of writing |
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is a powerful new foldable with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, 7.6-inch inner display, 5.5-inch cover display, 4,800mAh battery and dual 50MP rear cameras.
However, TWRP support should not be assumed simply because previous Galaxy Fold models had custom recovery projects.
For this reason, the safest approach is to wait for a recovery specifically compiled and tested for your exact Galaxy Z Fold8 model and firmware. Once a legitimate build is available, this guide can be updated with the appropriate recovery file and device-specific installation procedure.
Never flash a recovery image from another Galaxy Fold generation just to see whether it works. On a $1,000+ foldable, waiting for verified development is far better than risking a soft brick or data loss.
